Fire Stomping
Maintenance management is often reactionary, we like to call it fire stomping,
often there are so many little flare-ups that you never get to the source.
After enough fire stomping small fires become the norm and the source is no
longer sought, it’s all we can do to keep up. This is a trap often perpetuated
by fire fighters who don’t know any better, or worse, don’t want you to know
any better. At As-Spec we believe in a structured, considered and managed approach
to maintenance.
If your site is assessed correctly you will more often than not
be able to predict problem areas in advance, tackle groups of potential problems
together, plan expenditure. For example, in most classrooms the lights burn for
the same amount of time, yet in most cases lamps are only changed when they fail.
The As-Spec way is to change all of them at the same time, 1 service call, bulk
buy your gear, better value for money, far less disruption and the ability to then
predict when you will next revisit that classroom. If that makes sense then you’re
likely to enjoy a structured maintenance plan.
