Here at As-Spec when we consider our Electrical Services we think of ourselves primarily as a maintenance team. But what is Maintenance? Total Maintenance is more than just showing up to fix the broken thing you have just noticed. Total Maintenance is responsive and reactive, but also proactive and preventative. It shouldn’t always fail before you fix it, sometimes you need to fix it before it fails; sometimes you need to maintain it. Most people want their stuff to last a while; they want to get the best value out of it, that’s why we have maintenance.

In a throw away society we are taught that things have a defined life span, after which time you should through it away, they don’t usually tell you what that life span is though, it is when it ends. It’s this life span that you can help define with maintenance, you can have an impact on it, you can control it to a certain extent, and you can extend it. How many components are there in your total electrical system, hundreds, maybe thousands? If you think about it for a bit you’ll realize that what ever the number is, it’s not small. When you consider that most of these components are mechanical in their nature and are working constantly for you, it’s easier to understand the concept of electrical maintenance.

Would you get into an airliner that you knew hadn’t been maintained for decades, no one had checked it, unlikely. How safe, how reliable, how well maintained are your electrical systems? Do you know?
