Advantages of U/F Heating
An underfloor heating system heats mainly by radiation. Radiant heat emitted by the floor provides an even distribution of warmth. No cold spots, hot ceilings or cold feet. The overall effectiveness of an underfloor heating system can be seen in the diagrams to the left. The top diagram shows the result of an underfloor heating system, with the heat being concentrated where it is most needed for comfort and efficiency.
By contrast, other heating systems transfer heat from a relatively small area at a much higher temperature than the space being heated. The room is consequently heated mainly by convection. This effect is shown in the bottom diagram where the floor is the coolest place in the room, with the mass of warm air at ceiling level.
The pipes, which carry the hot water through the floor, are usually laid some 200mm apart in the counterflow pattern; although the position of walls and shape of rooms may make other patterns more appropriate. Here at As-Spec we provide a complete circuit layout, which is prepared prior to the pipe being installed, this means the most efficient and practical pattern combinations can be applied specifically to your plan.
